Error importing 23.3 update to server

Hello,

don't know if I'm the only one seeing this. Have updated/upgraded 2 zones, In both I did received the error in system update in my lab zone "Unable to retreive the failure root cause

Note: ZENworks will automatically retry the system update preparation stage on the failed servers. If the error persists, please contact Micro Focus Customer Support."

In first zone it was a primary server agent that wasn't correctly registered with the zone, support helped to resolve that. Now I try the same thing at a customer and get the same error on one server, this time I know it's not the same issue as on my lab zone.

So my questions, I'm the only one seeing this or is it a known unknown error?

Any ideas how to resolve issues like this before updating? It's a pain having to contact support so often because strange errors.

Any suggestions are welcome.

/Lelle

Without any info, it's tough to say.  Clearly, the first issue was not really a System Update import issue.  Your Primary server had significant problems with a lack of proper registration before hand.  This would show up with issues such as the "Last Full Refresh being seriously out of date".   So fixing core issues with Primary, allowed the update to import correctly.

There is a built-in Retry, so sometimes it will auto-correct after a while.  Restarting the  ZEUS service could help in some cases or restarting the service itself.  The classic troubleshooting tip since something may be in a bad state.  Check for sufficient Disk Space...Lack of Disk Space could be an issue.

However, no it's not a general issue.

    Hello Craig,

thanks for your reply, yeah I understand that it's not related to each other but at least same error message.

I don't think it's related to disk space, I got 21 GB free on / and 380GB on /vastorage so it should be sufficient (after update is replicated).

What log files to look in and what to look for?

    Loader-Messages.log or prepare-update.log may help.

I can't think of many "actionable" actions based on such errors.

The "ZEUS" Service on Windows is one of the items that handles the job.  I have seen restarting that help as has just being patient and it ends up working on a background retry.  zeus-messages.log may help if a restart does not help.

If you are going from 20.2, then perhaps there could be some issues about Certs.  20.3 and later have stricter cert requirements due to updated java.  I've seen issues around ancient SHA-1 Certs or improper CN/Additional Name fields.  Not common, but just another random thng.

But the certs were less importing and more when folks when to "Configure".

Rebooted server, see this in prepare-update.log

"] [ThreadedStreamReader] [279] [zenworks] [SystemUpdate] [] [/opt/microfocus/zenworks/bin/run_preglobal_update:: OUT: FINE: Failed to make post rest call to ZeUS Endpoints "

    And in Zeus-message.log I see error like "[ZeUSAgent] [38] [] [Security] [] [Message: The token string is invalid                                 - ] [] [] [] [ZeUSService]"

    and

"[ZeUSAgent] [38] [] [Security] [] [Error while validating AuthToken]"

Is it any harm in trying

     microfocus-zenworks-configure -c GenerateOSPPropertiesConfigureAction

    and

    microfocus-zenworks-configure -c RegenerateOSPAuthCfgXml

    ?

I've never seen either cause an issue....so should be safe....

You could try disabling "Security" with "zman ssassc", if it's OSP that would fix it too.

Restarting all services may help, with token issues....not highly likely but a significant enough chance its worth trying.

Check to make sure the Server Cert looks good....Proper Fully Qualified CN?

    Hello Craig,

Cert should be fine, customer is using a SAN cert with all primary's and satellites in subject alt name

It did not help with microfocus-zenworks-configure -c GenerateOSPPropertiesConfigureAction, microfocus-zenworks-configure -c RegenerateOSPAuthCfgXml

    also tried zman ssassc  --option=false

    Have opend a SR now

I just tried upgrading to 23.3 lelle and I got the same message. Any insight on what I can look for to see if my issue is the same as yours?

Nevermind I resolved it. Had to clean out mulitple things. And I am not sure exactly which thing I did that fixed it so no help for others really from me either.

Basic maintenance and cleanup helps so many things, whether on the servers all the way down to our handbrains (devices/phones) and cars as well (oil and filter changes).  May not feel as satisfying as a clear break/fix, but chops out this sort of frustrating problem and makes the remaining ones easier to resolve.
