Google Cloud Print support for Chromebooks

Status: Accepted
It would be very helpful to have iPrint support Google Cloud Print, as not supporting it essentially means that iPrint doesn't support the majority of devices used in K12 education in the United States.

Chromebooks have become incredibly popular in the American K12 education market in the past several years, where they now comprise over half of classroom devices. They are frequently being used in 1:1 deployments, where each student is assigned a Chromebook for use in school and at home.

Google makes available an API for developers to integrate Cloud Print support into devices applications.

  • It's good that this has changed to "Planned". I know we've stressed to product management that an actual "integration" with CloudPrint (the ability to publish iPrint printers to CloudPrint) is greatly important. I hope that's what is "planned". I know the Chrome iPrint extension is a nice option for some people, but it just doesn't seem to help a lot of us who are managing hundreds or thousands of Chromebooks. As these devices are more or less "designed" to use CloudPrint, it would be much easier for some of us to just be able to publish our iPrint printers directly to the cloud.
