Problem:

Why are only the alternate Test Steps getting imported when using the Office Import Tool?

Resolution:

When using the Office Import Tool to import manual tests from an Excel spreadsheet, similar to the one shown below, that only have Test Step names:

The Office Import Tool is only importing alternate lines of the Excel spreadsheet. The following Test Step structure will be displayed in SilkCentral Test Manager:

This is because the Office Import Tool expects a Test Step Description after the Test Step Name. However, as the line after the Test Name is not in the Test Step Description style it will not be imported. The Test Step Description is mandatory when using the Office Import Tool.

In order to resolve this - place a blank line under each of the Test Step Names as shown below:

This will result in all steps being imported:

This could also be overcome by providing Test Step Decriptions with the correct styles applied.
