Moving Retain Data to New Disk

My current disk that holds my retain data and database is filling up and cannot be expanded, so I created a new larger disk that can be expanded if needed later.  I stopped retain and copied the data (took several days) from the smaller disk to the new larger disk, but the mysql.sock file won’t copy since linux says it is a “special file”.  The mysql.sock.lock file did copy.

Do i need this file? If not, can i just change the location of the data and reboot?  I have a ticket with support, but wanted a faster opinion.

Thanks in advance.

I think your database is located here: /var/lib/mysql/ - subdirectory retain

so what is in the mysql folder on the data disk?

Ruh roh.  looks like the new activity for mysql is in the old data/mysql directory.  ugh

mysql is pointing to the old location.  well that wasn't in the tids...

Micro Focus support isnt being much help. Just sending me tids and telling to call Microsoft for mysql issue.?????

ah yes, those folks who don't even know that SQL is a language vs the software that Microsoft co-opted that uses the language.  or that MySQL is by Oracle.  sigh.

I've run in to that issue of Retain support just passing the DB issue to one of your many DB experts that 'all' organizations have (that perpetual false prejudgement we in small shops have to deal with).  I found I had to dive into some of the MySQL forums to figure out some of the challenges along the way like this one.

This has been an adventure to say the least.  After multiple issues (including a virtual host with array puncture issues), I am back to square one without an expanded disk, but have learned a lot.  Now mysql is running as well as tomcat.  I can see the login page for Retain, but no credentials work.

by any chance have the credentials being used had their passwords changed since you started this adventure?   it is possible that the new passwords haven't made it to Retain yet?

are you getting the status emails from Retain?  assuming you had them before, are they continuing?  they may have clues in them (hard to parse clues, but clues never the less)

What are the logs showing?  I think the default is in  /var/log/retain-tomcat/

It was a restored vm with the most recent data directory (mysql and retain folders) copied just updating changed items from the vm that was stuck on the punture block array errored host.  The copy/update went without a hitch.  But I had to add the permissions afterwards.

No status emails.  I cannot get into the admin console to check anything.  Archiving is not happening either.

I sent the logs to tech support, but there are mariadb and java errors(?).  I cannot decipher the log error meanings.
