Abstract: Meet the needs of our users by offering a file search facilty which keeps data local, not with unknown persons in clouds. I have domesticated the free, open source Apache Solr/Lucene search engine, making it be people (users and tech staff) friendly, and fitting nicely within our OES servers or be an appliance. I discuss the design and mention coping with evolution. The design expects the system to support many local groups, each with their own data, and do so efficiently (resources, people relations). My own OES installation has indexes for 250,000 docs.
