  • Caroline, your solution/resolution will not work, i am on oes24.3!

    after running your command and confirming with "yes" the message pop up:

    "the following package update will NOT be installed:

        OES-relase

      nothing to do"

    and this on all my oes24.3 servers!

  • Claude,  it worked for me, not that I had the problem.

    Before and after:

    #  cat /etc/novell-release
    Open Enterprise Server 24.3 (x86_64)
    VERSION = 2023.1
    PATCHLEVEL = 1
    DISPLAY_RELEASE = 24.3

    If this isn't happening for you, let us continue this in the Discussions area where more of us can chime in

  • Andy, i see the same context by cat /etc/novell-release

    but by "zypper up" or "zypper patch" the following message comes:

    Refreshing service 'nu_novell_com'.
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    The following package update will NOT be installed:
      OES-release
    Nothing to do.

    i don't find a file OES-release in /etc, only a file OES-brand or os-release

    OES-brand with
    OES
    VERSION = 24.3

    os-release with
    NAME="SLES"
    VERSION="15-SP4"
    VERSION_ID="15.4"
    PRETTY_NAME="SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4"
    ID="sles"
    ID_LIKE="suse"
    ANSI_COLOR="0;32"
    CPE_NAME="cpe:/o:suse:sles:15:sp4"
    DOCUMENTATION_URL="">documentation.suse.com/"

    it is not very important for me, may be cosmetical, i want only to say to Caroline that the posted command will not help!

  • In /etc/ there is no OES-release or oes-release,  it is novell-release

     # ll /etc/*release                                 << the only way I check releases so that I don't have to think which they are on a given distro
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root  92 Jul 20 17:10 /etc/novell-release
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 227 Oct 12  2023 /etc/os-release

    The os-release is for the base Operating System, which is solidly SuSE,  with OES being the integrated add-on as reflected in novell-release

  • Andy, OES-release is in the output from command "zypper up" or "zypper patch", not a file on my /etc/directory

    and the resolution from Caroline is to stopped this false message, but this will not!

    Do you anderstand? May be in Toronto is a other it-world! i was never in Toronto!

  • Claude,  revisit what this TID/KB is all about

        "OES patches are installed, but the version is not updated in /etc/novell-release or the boot menu."

    If that is working properly, why is it a problem if patching was all successful and there is 'nothing left to do'?

    Toronto is a fun and very multicultural city, let me know if you ever make it here, and we shall see if we can have drinks.  I haven't been to Germany yet, though my mom is from there. Both my parents escaped the descending iron curtain. I do need to visit those places where I have some distant relatives.
