Groupwise Mobility Server and "classic Outlook" vs. "new Outlook (365)"

GW/GMS 24.3

Hello,

classic Outlook can connect to GMS using "Exchange".

Now Microsoft installs a "new" Outlook 365 parallel to classic outlook. This version only allows to connect to an office 365 account, I cannot manual give our GMS address.

The detour using Windows system control / adding an email account doesn't work, outlook 365 doesn't access to this account.

On my informations MS plans to remove "classic" Outlook until end of 2024.

Is there any way to connect GMS with outlook 365 (no imap/no pop)?

"Classic Outlook" is good to at least 2029

the new one will only be for 365, so no hope there for those addicted to that particular interface, unless things change. But that is 5+ years in far the future of these things, and we've already seen M$ back step a few of their overly aggressive moves to controlling their slaves, I mean customers.

There are general moves to get away from the legacy protocols that have issues with security, and (assume compromised)Exchange is one of them. Clearly, Exchange users have been given an end of life to plan for, but that won't be soon enough for how easily it can be compromised in the same way we consider RDP to be 'Ransomware Deployment Protocol'.   Opportunities for organizations that need their email+ to be totally in house to migrate in the GroupWise direction.  After all, if they care about that data sovereignty, they probably care about security as well.

    @ Andy,
I had a discussion a few days ago. It was something like Microsoft sets technical standards or Microsoft is so and so. I would like to formulate your statement a little more harshly, but I am not allowed to do so here. The only thing I see here in Europe is that everything is running in the direction of Micorosft and Microsoft Cloud according to the motto I have the services out there and if it crashes, nobody can hit me or everyone does it that way. But no one at C-level realizes what data Microsft is extracting and evaluating. As private individuals and companies, we disclose data that is nobody's business because Microsoft is using the excuse that there is a better comfort for IT. For me, data sovereignty comes first. In second place are the crown jewels in every company, the core processes with the associated data. If I hand this over to a third party, the knowledge about core processes, the company DNA and USP leaves the company. What am I worth then? In future, Mircosoft, just like Google and Apple, and other companies in China will do everything they can to rip us off down to the last toe. Everyone can decide for themselves what this means for us as a society.

The “new” Outlock and the new Outlock app no longer recognize Active Sync. I think this is a very worrying step, especially for the OpenSource community
