Can ModScript (or AppScript) read web page?

I want to scrape data from an external URL.  The site doesn't have a REST data interface so, as far as I know, I can't configure a REST Data Source.  Is there a way for ModScript or AppScript to open an external website and read the HTTP contents?  The web site I want to scrape can provide some limited information in JSON.
