Adding +25 Fields To An Existing Table

Hi All !

I am adding about 25 fields to an existing table with 600K records in PROD, some of the new fields have a default value, so I tried to deploy the latest changes to PROD, but the deployment was aborted, after I checked with our DBA they said it was aborted while the SQL server trying to add the fields and update the default value of the new fields.

Did anyone get this problem? Is anyone familiar with such a problem?

Thanks!

It may time-out.  You may or may not get an error or other indication.

There are several "timeout" settings you can modify or add to SBM to help with this kind of deployment issue.  Some of these settings are documented in the on-line KB; others are not documented.  For those you will have to contact tech support or the gurus like Vickie or David via PM.

If there is nothing after this message indicating activity then we will need to investigate further.  Since this message, how long has it been?  Was IIS restarted?  An IIS restart would terminate the deploy/promote though the repo would not be updated.  Compare the Event Log for "SBM Web Service" entries that may indicate something occurring after this message.

At this point, I would expect the 6-Jun deploy to be done or failed.  If you do not see anything in the Event Log for web services then try to IISRESET, increase logging of Acitive Diagnostics for Deploy/Promote and try again.  If we do not get any response in any of these logs after an hour, create a dump of the IIS Worker Process for gsoap and create a case.
