Hello,
That's a good question. This is the answer:
Alarming: This option is used when the primary goal is to generate alerts based on certain conditions or thresholds. When a metric is set to "Alarming," it means that the system monitors the metric in real-time and triggers an alert if the monitored value meets specific criteria. However, the data is not logged into CODA. The focus is on immediate alerting rather than long-term data collection.
Logging: This option is used when the metric data needs to be stored in CODA for further processing, such as creating performance dashboards and for reporting purposes. When a metric is set to "Logging," it means that the system collects and logs the metric data regularly. The data is available for historical analysis and other performance management activities.
I'll add a request to get the documentation https://docs.microfocus.com/doc/MP_for_Microsoft_SQL_Server/2023.05/MetricsDef1 updated with this information.
Thanks,
Duncan
The above information will be in https://portal.microfocus.com/s/article/KM000033067 shortly, plus I've asked the documentation team to update.
I hope this helps.
