Situation

Upon startup, SBM Composer displays a Start Page with documentation tips.  This page is downloaded from the URL https://help.serena.com/.  If the Composer machine cannot access the Start Page, it will display the "Service unavailable" message which looks similar to this:

This message alone will not prevent the use of SBM Composer unless there are other issues preventing the connection to the SBM Repository.
 

Resolution

From the Composer machine, open a browser and go to https://help.serena.com/ to see what kind of message is returned. If "Can’t reach this page" is displayed, then the browser is not reaching the Help server.

Situation 1: Internet access is not allowed from Composer machine
SBM Composer does not require internet access. Only the startup page connects to the internet. You can ignore the message and continue using Composer without the startup page. 

Situation 2: Internet access is allowed from Composer machine

• Verify that other internet sites are available.
• If other internet sites are not available, contact your IT department. 
• If other internet sites are working, contact SBM support as the SBM help server may be down.
