Reminder: Microsoft will turn off Basic Authentication for Outlook365 IMAP mailboxes

Microsoft will turn off Basic Authentication for Outlook365 IMAP mailboxes on December 31, 2022 for those that got the extension. The SBM Mail Client can access IMAP mailboxes to read email and attach notes to cases (SBM Notelogger) or for email submit. SBM supports modern authentication for IMAP mailboxes as of SBM 11.8. Micro Focus has released hotfix 10 to help with this, though, it is not necessary unless SBM is accessing an Oracle database instead of a SQL Server database.

Please review the following tips for using implementing the SBM Mail Client with modern authentication to an IMAP O365 mailbox.

  • This KB provides good documentation about setting this up. https://portal.microfocus.com/s/article/KM000005363
  • If everything is setup correctly in Outlook365, you should be able to get access/refresh tokens using the Powershell Script. (+) SBM Tip: How-To acquire OAuth2 tokens for O365 - SBM Tips & Information - Solutions Business Manager (microfocus.com)
  • Make sure that Tomcat has the Microsoft CA certs in Manage Trusted Certificates.
  • As mentioned above, Hotfix 10 is not necessary for SBM 11.8 with SQL Server, but helpful. Setup mailboxes in App Admin using an “In Private” or “In Cognito” tab; this will forget about existing Azure connections that you may have open in your browser.
