SMTP Failed

I am running Service Desk 7.2 and I am testing it out with a new SMTP server. I set up everything like our old but I am getting the following errors in the log:

Could not connect to SMTP host: localhost, port: 25, response: -1

How do I find out what the "-1" response means? I am running the SMTP service on the same server as Service Desk.
