virtual CS4 photoshop crashes on windows 8.1

I have a virtual cs4 photoshop app that runs fine on windows 7 but is toast on windows 8.1
Is this a lost cause?

    It may require visualizing more of the SYSTEM32 files.
    I would recommend using Process Monitor on Win7 to see which files the processes use. (You may need to check your main process at multiple points, as it may load and unload DLLs at the start.)

    No idea if that would help..........Just tossing out ideas.
