Knowledge Document: Problems with Special Character Retain Searches

Retain (any version)

Situation

When searching for a string with special characters, more results will return than expected.  For example, searching for "N&B" will return any message which has the following

N&B
N#B
N^B
N!B
and so on.


This also includes N B (N space B).  The SPACE situation creates increases the results list by an enormous amount because any words which end in N and start with B will be listed in the search results. For example:

on board
shown before
correction badge
and so on.

Cause

The search engine treats special characters the same.

Resolution

There is no workaround or resolution to this issue.
