Knowledge Document: DDNS does not work for replacement device

You replace a device with a new device but the same hostname or change the network card of an existing device The new device gets an IP address via DHCP but DDNS does not create a new / updated DNS entry

  • That strikes me as a Work Around rather than a Resolution for a normal enough situation, and might explain oddities I have seen.  Now I have a possible smoking gun to add to the investigate queue. Certainly, the managing of workstations such as replacing NICs (well, system board nowadays) and systems is a separate role than managing DNS or servers, so that "resolution" requires 2 or 3 roles, that in larger orgs, are separate people or even teams.
