Knowledge Document: CIFS Login Error encountered when using FQDN or IP Address

An error is encountered when accessing a CIFS share using FQDN or IP Address.

Environment

Open Enterprise Server 24.2

Situation

When accessing a CIFS share on OES 24.2 from a Windows machine without any OES Client installed, the share can be access via \\SERVERNAME.

But when using the FQDN the following error is encountered.

2024-04-18T17:20:22.486414+02:00 nss-ad cifsd[14925]: ERROR: AUTH: AcceptSecContext: GSS auth failed for client: 120.x.2.40, GSS-API error: Invalid credential was supplied
2024-04-18T17:20:22.486468+02:00 nss-ad cifsd[14925]: ERROR: AUTH: AcceptSecContext: GSS auth failed for client: 120.x.2.40, GSS-API error: (null)

Cause

The client computer is using an FQDN (cifs-server.domain.local) that is pointed to an old local domain (DNS) which is no longer a valid FQDN.
Find resolution on the support portal
