I do agree the multiple appliances on SLES12.5 in 2024 is unacceptable.

No one will be moving to SLES16 until after it is released and vetted in other production environments, and likely at sp1.  It is a VERY different OS, not scheduled for release until summer 2025, but will be perfect for container based products.

We can't expect the various product development teams to follow lockstep with latest SLES releases, they are generally 1 point release behind, then skip a point release.  Expectation and comments from PMs in various webinars have been talking mainly of SLES15.7 as their next base OS bump, skipping 15.6.  Initially SuSE development had planned on a v16 release this year which was delayed and 15.7 in its place.

I'd assume we'll receive more details after the various 24.4 releases.

I notice the following point in a release note for Sentinel : (dated July 2024)

Sentinel 8.6.1.1 is the last release supporting SUSE-based appliances. Sentinel will deprecate support for SUSE-based appliances starting next release. However, future releases will support RHEL-based appliances.

    Is OT changing direction ?
