New OES 24.4 iPrint Setup

Good day,

I have a new OES 24.4 server

(It has not yet been patched)

Created: Driver Store (successful - visible in iManager and can access it via the iPrint Management client (upload drivers)

Created: Print Manager (successful - visible in iManager and can mange it with the Print Monitor.

Created : Printer Agent (successful - visible in iManager can ping to it, and see that the correct driver has been assigned to it)

Yet in the above, I cannot see the Printer Agent from the ipp page (portal) page, it displays no Printers as available. I have restarted the Print Manager, and Apache but still not seeing the Printer Agent. Is there something that I'm missing? This is a very basic setup,

Thank you,

-DS

    +1

with oes 24.4, you're now running iPrint Advanced so you need to login into the /ipcon page to finish advanced configuration. Once you're logged for the first time, printer page will show the printer.

Then you need to load the iprint advanced license to the server thru the same /ipcon page.

    Good evening,

I did log on to the ipcon page [https://servername or ipaddress]/ipcon I saw the printer there along with the option to Visible to all users in iPrint Portal once I selected [Save] the printer was then visible thank you.

    Hi Andy

yes, after 24.4, both iprint versions has been merged. If you have OES entitlement, then you got the advanced desktop license for free. If you want to print from the android/ios apps, then you need to purchase the advanced mobile licenses.

So this running on OES,  we don't have to do anything for basic iPrint to keep working, and can explore the desktop bits at are leisure,  or do I still need to feed the OES key into iPrint to keep it going past that expiry the iPrint Console shows?

I see it asks for a file for license for the Advanced bits. Where do I get that file from? SLD doesn't have such a file sitting there if we want to play with the Advanced Desktop.

Thinking through the likely questions that will be asked along the way, especially in a couple of months when the burst of early installers of 24.4 hit the end of their trials.

    Hi Andy

basic printing will keep working. I've already explain that on another article.

Advanced is basically an add-on so no many changes on desktop printing other than few new capabilities from iprint client, iprint lite, to print to a printer without need to install it. This is all on the documentation.

Once you log into ipcon for first time, advanced get configured and the 90 days trial license are activated. If you do not upload the advanced desktop license, after the 90 days trail some advanced capabilities will not longer work but desktop printing will keep working fine.

If you use Advanced, the end user will notice almost nothing on desktop printing. He will notice that the old /ipp page is now a new printer portal page with extra capabilities like ACL control or quick print or printing from the portal page with no need to install the printer. But desktop printing using the iPrint client is exactly the same

All customers with OES entitlement, they get the iPrint Advanced desktop license for free and they're available on SLD.

If you want to print from the Android/IOS apps, then you need to purchase the Advanced. mobile license.

I'd suggest to install the advanced desktop license and keep using advanced .
