Extract Data from a dead GW Server possible?

One of our customers "was" running a Groupwise Server (v18) on SLES for one of their customers, until a couple of days ago. The server cannot be revived, at least not with our limited knowledge. Unfortunately, that customer has very limited GW knowledge either and consequently.... no backups

Is there any way to extract data, mostly calendar, from several accounts from that dead server, or the database files?

Thanks for any pointer

Dan

    Hi Dan,

are you able to access any data? Well, server can be dead but can you access the disc? Without any data or databases I do not see a light.

Do you have any users running caching mailboxes?

    hello diethmar,
yes, we can access the raw data on the disk. the linux server still runs..
we just do not know which files are important and if identified, what we can do to extract mailbox data.

If you have access to the domain directory and the postoffice directory (including ofmsg, ofuser and offiles) then your life is saved. Out of this you can revive any GroupWise system.

    Thanks Diethmar,

Could you point me to a description on how such a recovery might be done?

Please unterstand, we do not have a lot of GW knowledge here.

    Thanks a lot

    Dan

    what is exactly the Problem?

you say the sles Server run correctly? wich Version?

Where is your postoffice and Domain installed?

The best Plattform for groupwise is oes2018 and on nss volumes.

do you find your postoffice and Domain? "abcde"po and "abcde"do

my Installation is on /media/nss/GWDATA/groupwise and here i find the po and do, also the Software and the agents start files

What Version of groupwise have you?

Backup your postoffice and Domain, secondary Domain and reinstall groupwise Software to see if the Server runs correctly?

Without correct Information, we are not able to help and you say you have groupwise experts in house!

let us known how you have solve your Problem!

    Thanks

    Hi Dan,

if you have a "usual" license then you will get free support. So you can open a SR and someone will help you. However sometimes it can happen that you will have a license without support (i.e. many universities in Europe).

I think it is pretty easy to bring back a system to life. I.e. I have a demo system containing two domains and two postoffices. All together they sleep well in a zip or tar file. But I bring them back to life if I need. So I copy all the domain and postoffice files to a location I want to use (i.e. on an empty Sles server).

Then I install the GroupWise software. Afterwards I go for "Configuration". Within this window I can add domains and postoffices (in my case I have to add two domains and two postoffices if they run all together on the same server). You have to select the right locations and take care of overlapping ports.

That's it. More or less. Maybe you  have to fight ip addresses and some settings afterwards. However your system should be up and running.
