Securing GWIA

GWIA has poor options to secure GroupWise on the SMTP side and no SPAM and Virus protection.

So I recommend and use since years a Postfix an a small Linux Server or an existing SLES  with enabled Postfix as a mail relay in front of quia

With Postfix you can add very good SPAM and Virus protection i.e. integrating RSPAMD Deamon. But evenPostfix itself has some posibilities to protct SPAM, i.e. blocking all mails without senders reverse pointer. In practice alone this blocks me up to 90% of SPAM mails.

I hope that will be helpfull

Regards

Rainer

  • In GWIA, we do at least have "Reject if PTR record does not exist" or just flag as junk for an initial test. Along with "mailbomb" limits to prevent any one source from flooding you.  But beyond that, I agree, very anemic on the protection side, but then most other classic email systems are also limited in many ways.
