I'm the wrong person to answer this question, but since it's just a regular IMAP delete process, it shouldn't cause any problems.  The caveat being that SMG has elevated privileges to perform these operations, and I don't know if that has an impact to how GW processes the actions.  A GW support/dev person would need to be asked this one for clarification.

3. (your second 2). A healthy mailbox is independent of SMG (except virus protection).

Therefore a daily or weekly gwcheck of all your mailboxes is recommended. I.e. I do  daily structural gwchecks and weekly contents checks.  Do not forget to read gwcheck outputs!

The ‑‑imapreadlimit specifies the maximum number of messages that IMAP can retrieve from a single folder.

The GroupWise 24 Administration Guide has this to say about imapreadlimit

While 20,000 may seem like a lot, I've been told that many users leave all their email in their inbox and could have many tens of thousands of messages there. I also encountered an issue where a firewall sent out a steady stream of notification emails and before I knew it I had 200K+ messages in my inbox and, yes, it took quite a while to clear them.

If you want to make sure you scan all your post office email you should check to verify that no one set a very low imapreadlimit!

Thank you, I have seen that and set the limit up to 65k.

Luckily the only folder which hits this limit results from Veeam with hourly replications, so it is unlikely to have malware in that.

I will test this in my lab first before I do the wipe.

The documentation also warns that the POA caches all the messages it delivers from a specific folder and a high imapreadlimit value can impact performance so just be aware...

After two runs for one user the I asked myself, why SMG had the same hits in the message-tracker, when the additional block-service is supposed to remove the hits from the message-store.

So I went to the users mailbox and searched for tthe subjects.

GroupWise showed those entries as crossed out but still in the mailbox.

After some research I found this:

I now know, where this comes from, but how can I get these e-mail cleaned out immedtiately?
