smtp authentication

According to the docu smtp authentication to groupwise enables user to access their qms. The setting, again according to the docu, is authentication 'auto' for GroupWise.

When I enable this and login with a valid email and password, I can see in the GWIA 18.4.2 logs that 'Inbound AUTH succeeded from <<smg ip>>, User: xxx@xxx</pre>. But the webinterface of the SMG still says Authentication failed, please try again.

SMG version is 2022.12.7 rpm:1.0.1-358.1

What can be wrong here?
