can not delete secondary

I have a groupwise server primary domain on SLES 15 SP5 groupwise 24.2 that can not be updates for some reason and goes out of space.

so I installed a ne SLES installed groupwise and the a secondary domain with gwia and tried to install a post office.

I would move the users to the the new PO, then chance primary with secondary, delete the old now empty primary and can delete the server.

Did this sometimes with success.

Now  the problem, the creation of the post fails tried again fails again, but the directory structure was created.

So let's delete the new domain and then the groupwise on the new server and start a new installation.

But it does not let delete the domain grom the GUI, but it seam it has deleted the domain directory, its lost. I hoped the gwadminutil can help, but do not fin aa delete option.

Please help

Your description was a little bit fast and weird. You seem to be in a hurry - which is always bad for IT.

So you created a new domain. Did you start this domain? Did the whole system feel the new domain? Hereafter I would start to create a post office for the new domain.

If you delete a domain, then a MTA for this domain should be up and running. So it will report back to the primary, that it has been deleted.

But let's start with the beginning. If your GW server is out of disk space and the server is in a weird condition, then create a new server and move the existing GW environment to the new server. That is a lot easier, smarter and avoids activities to move users from A to B.

Where do you have out of Spaces?  On boot or other volume/directory

where do you have the install software?
    do you have lvm-volumes?
there are many question before giving you better advice!

Dietmar is a Great Groupwise Specialist and we all can help you if you give us more Information on your sles15sp5

moving Groupwise to a new Server Need a Little Bit reflection and strategy, but First i t Need to know why you have Space Troubles? Log-files, Boot volume snapshots, or other

the command „zypper purge-kernels“ will Remote old kernels, only one possibility

be active only if you are sure of what you do!

    1. I created a new SLES server

    2. I installed GroupWise

3, With the GW install utility I created a new secondary domain in a fine running system

4 . I saw the new secondary in the gw admin utility on the primary server

    5. I checked the link  configuration looked good

    6. I tried to add a PO with the GW install utility on the new server

but that fails two times, but as I sae later the PO directory structure was created

    7. No the old server is not in a weired condition, it has about 8 GB free of 150GB and runs fine

but for some reason it was installed with a separate /boot partion of only some MB and the lastest zypper patch complains not enough space on /boot

so as we had not more disk space and the problem with /boot I decided to install a new 200GB server.

the server are VMs. unfortuatly I didn't do a snapshot before adding the domain as that was never am issue in all the 35 years I work with groupwsie

Problem is now the new domain is not running can not siart the MTA, but I have to get it out if the system

OK moveing the system but I had no problem moving users als the time, I you do regulary automatic checks, not only the deaults, the the databases remain clean, in this case ther are only 4 users but with long history of data

I step in at 6. You have connected to the new domain and then you have started to create a new post office, right?

To start new GW pieces you need the right DC files. Do you see a wphost.dc and a gwpo.dc in your (new) domain and your post office directory?

only on  /boot when triying to update, but as the whole disk has only 150GB, we can wait GW takes the rest of the space, On the other hand the server shoulp be moved to another host, whats no problem but as we need more hd space to, we decieded a new server. I have ZFS as the underlayinf file system, the server has ext4. zypper purge-kernels help me the last time, but I at the end

Use the command „zypper purge-kernels“ to remove old kernels

after this Look if there are zipped files as *.gz and remove it manually, then remove all Older Kernel files on /boot

Then you must have more Place on /boot and the Installation May be successfull

This May be also the reason to not be able to update to sles15sp6

but First you Groupwise must works correctly? Do you have the latent Build of gw24.2?

Only for your Information, the latent gw Version is gw24.4, i have Build 146818, no trouble for the moment

yes I know we have 24.4 now, the update was planed after the move. ad the SP6 is planed too whne the /boot problem is fixed.

To make clear the only real problem I have to get rid of that broken new secondary domin. Everthing else are side effects to let you know the reason for the move,

to your last question. I have the GW24.2 I installed the rest of the system, that means the primary domain, the post office a gwia and a dva and on a second SLES a secondary domain as backup for the database. But I can not use this server as it has only 32GB and ist used as for WebAccess and GWWEB. The system was set up in April this year when the customer moved from VMware to PROOMOX. So I first install GW 2018 as a secondary domain, I think and imported imported (move user) from the outdated GW and OES, switched from primary to secondary and deleted the old GW. then did upgrade to GW 23.3, do be able to install WEBACCES, the upgraded to GW24.2, since the everything worked fine. Just for information, I have about 35 years of GW experience, was GW CNE and CNI, and I have installed, moved, etc. quit a lot of single, multi domain and sing to multi location systems.

And I have absolute no idea what went wrong this time. i had been root for the installation, did it as always.
