That's a philosophical question
A backup or snapshot does not hurt - so do it!
I have upgraded several systems to version 24.2 and they are still running ...

I can agree with Dithmar, the update to 24.2 went without any problems internally or with customers.
One thing with an all-in-one appliance, the update took me more than 45 minutes internally with the upgrade of the DB. To see what is currently happening in the update, I look at the process list live and sometimes also have live access to the tail -f log data to assess it.
Whether the correct rpm was installed during the update is unfortunately not trivial, a query with rpm -qa still shows the Filr 5.x version.
Helpful is:
cat /etc/Novell-VA-release
product=Filr Appliance
singleWordProductName=Filr
version=24.2
arch=x86_64
id=filr-appliance
updateRegcodeKey=regcode-filr
updateProductName=Filr5.0
cat /etc/Novell-VA-base
product=Micro Focus Base Appliance
version=2.2.1.2
arch=x86_64

24.2 works here.
I see two problems that occurred before 24.2 and still persist:
