Environment

Content Manager 10.0 - 24.x

Situation

In a typical CM IDOL implementation, a number of non-mirrored content engines are distributed across one or more IDOL servers. Together these distributed content engines comprise a complete CM IDOL index; addressed by CM via an IDOL proxy server. In a CM IDOL implementation this proxy server is known as the “Content Manager IDOL Service” - a unified implementation of the IDOL Distributed Action Handler (DAH) and Distributed Index Handler (DIH) components.

Backing up and restoring a CM IDOL index can be done at the individual content engine level and/or via the CM IDOL Service’s DIH component. Care must be taken to ensure the chosen backup and restore methods are configured and executed appropriately to avoid the possibility of overwriting one content engine’s index with another content engine’s index.

This article outlines some different methods of backing up and restoring a CM IDOL index, and how to avoid the traps.
