A source-side gateway cannot be used for reading objects during object copy. While it is possible to configure the object copy like that, the session would fail in default circumstances (that is: without the needed precautions as explained later on this page) with the following messages:
[Warning] From: CSM@system.domain "Interactive" Time: 22/05/2023 14:03:32
[64:120] Replacement device not found for 'SO_Source_side'.
[Major] From: CSM@system.domain "Interactive" Time: 22/05/2023 14:03:32
FAILED copy of WinFS system.domain:/C "C:" from session 2023/05/22-1.
[Critical] From: CSM@system.domain "Interactive" Time: 22/05/2023 14:03:32
No objects to copy. The session will abort.
The problem can be avoided in two different ways:
In the copy specification, replace the read device (source-side gateway) with a non-source-side gateway. The gateway must belong to the same B2D device as the source-side gateway.
In the Properties window of a non-source-side gateway for the same B2D device, go to the Policies tab and select "Gateway may be used as source gateway for object copy". Data Protector will automatically replace the source-side gateway with this gateway.
