Support Tip: Always stop stores before stopping the StoreOnceSoftware service or daemon

First of all, please note that the newer solution for software deduplication in Data Protector is DPD. But apparently there is still a need for information about the StoreOnceSoftware solution, hence this document.

At any time, when the service or daemon has to be stopped or when the StoreOnce server (= a DP client) has to be rebooted, please do not forget to stop all stores first. Everything can be done with the StoreOnceSoftware command.

StoreOnceSoftware --list_stores

To get the names of all stores.

StoreOnceSoftware --stop_store --name=<StoreName> --force

To stop the stores one by one, where <StoreName> is retrieved from the first command above.

StoreOnceSoftware --list_stores

Once more to double check all stores were correctly stopped.

Only after this, the service or daemon can be stopped safely.

Windows: sc stop StoreOnceSoftware
Linux: StoreOnceSoftwared stop
