Support Tip: Local disk space required for a Deduplication Store

This is a very short Support Tip to make usre it is understood that a cloud enabld deduplication device will still need local disk space. This is also documented in the manuals.

Prerequisites

  • For the metadata directory, use a disk with free space of at least 5% of the total source backup data.
  • For cloud enabled Deduplication stores, ensure to have free disk space of at least 2% of the total source backup data in addition to the local cache size set for the store in the Deduplication directory.

So in short, a DPD store will need 5% of the size of the total source data on top of the store itself. And for a cloud enabled store, the store itself is located in the cloud obviously, but the 5% is still needed with an additional 2% for staging. As an example, if 1TB is being backed up to a cloud enabled DPD store then it will require at least 72GB of local space.
