Support Tip: Disabling first treewalk on a Windows client

0 Likes

On a Windows client with a huge number of files to be backed up, the first treewalk can take a considerable amount of time. By setting

OB2NOTREEWALK=1

in the omnirc file (ProgramData\OmniBack) of the client, this treewalk can be skipped. This is local to the client, so it needs to be set on each client separatedly if required. There is no need to restart any services.

By skipping this treewalk, the backup will kick off faster, but the total object size (Size collumn in GUI monitor) and the progress percentage (Done % in GUI monitor) will just state "Not Available".

Note that when "Detect NTFS hardlinks" is checked, the OB2NOTREEWALK environment parameter will be ignored and a first treewalk will be executed anyway. This "Detect NTFS hardlinks" option is found in the Advanced Filesystem Options / WinFS Options.
