Change in Client Upgrade and installation check?

As an old-time Data Protector user, I think I remember that Client Upgrade was happening in parallel for UNIX (HP-UX) platforms. When I tried with 24.4 today, I see that the clients are updates one after the other (which takes significant time).

Similar I thought a "Check installation" would update the Linux kernel version number displayed in the Client list, but that also seems to do not happen any more.

Is my memory correct?

I'm not sure the updates were ever really happening in parallel. But I tested the "Check Installation" and it does work fine, also on an HP-UX client.

Maybe your version is just too new ;-) BTW I think Data Protector 6.40 was the most reliable version ever, but we had to upgrade for support reasons (I had similar feelings for Windows XP or Windows 7).

So what version are you using now?

We never had 6.40. After 6.21 we went to 7.0 as far as I remember.

Well, maybe it was 6.20 (and my memory was wrong), but as I remember it, UNIX systems installed in parallel (more than one progress bar moving), While Windows systems did not. Technically there is little reason why installation or upgrade cannot happen in parallel (at least to some extent), but it's a bit more tricky to implement. OTOH if multiple MAs and DAs can be run and managed, why shouldn't install sessions, too? Once there was a csetup (client setup) tool that allowed unattended installs, too.

That could be true. But for one or another reason it was changed. You can submit an idea on Idea Exchange for this. If I'm hearing something more through the grapevine I'll let you know.

I also remember Client upgrade was running in parallel for both Linux and windows. I can also add that there was an omnirc variable available to be set on installation server to define how many parallel session could be run. I am looking for this variable to proper define the number of upgrade session to run in parallel but could not find them. If I find the variable name I will share it. May be changing\setting it will help.
