How to determine if a tape is Data Protector format

Hi All,

I have recently signed up for and received a trial version of DP 23.4 and am kind of in a state of shock at the scale of changes to the system architecture and UI compared to Version 8/9.

I would like to put an old DP tape into a drive and scan the tape for existing DP backups, to confirm if the tape is actually a DP formatted tape, or something else.

Does 23.4 ship with a feature that I can quickly point to a tape drive and scan a tape for a listing of archives?

Thanks,

Chris Dinneen.

Yes, that is not so complicated actually. Make sure you have a Media Agent installed. Obviously the device needs to be connected to this system (can be over fibre channel also). Next it should be possible to "Autoconfigure" the device in the "Devices and Media" GUI context (Right-click Devices). Once the device is configured, you can scan a slot if it is a library or you can insert the tape into the drive and scan the drive.

Hi Koen. Thanks for the info this was exactly what I was looking for.

It turns out my confusion was that my IT team installed the client version of DP without installing a media server / Cell manager.

    Thanks.
