OpenText Data Protector 24.3 was released in July 2024. The new version provides enhanced cyber security to better protect the data assets of organizations.
Introducing SafeZone Recovery
SafeZone Recovery enables organizations to create a restore data environment that is physically out of reach for cyber attackers. Setting up restore data in a safe zone means there is no network connection between the original backup environment and the SafeZone Recovery. No cyber attackers can gain access to the SafeZone in any way. Then the SafeZone recovered data can be examined and analyzed to determine if the backup is good or infected by some kind of ransomware for example. This is an important new option for ransomware recovery.
SafeZone Recovery is based on the historic Data Protector Automated Replication and Synchronization (ARS) feature and introduces new enhancements that allow to create a SafeZone Recovery.
HPE StoreOnce and Dell EMC Data Domain are supported with the new SafeZone Recovery feature.
The Automated Replication and Synchronization (ARS) feature is an extension to normal replication, which allows you to replicate backups between two deduplication appliances that are managed by two different Cell Managers. This setup allows for redundant setups and takeover where DP CM‘s are running in different locations/clouds.
This new enhancement allows for replication workflows who don’t need the target Cell Manager to be imported, avoiding security concerns for a true clean room situation.
Enhanced SAP Hana integration security
The user account and password handling for SAP Hana has been strengthened and now avoids usernames and passwords showing up during job runtime or in log files.
The SAP HANA Integration now offers making use of the SAP HANA Store Key approach avoiding plain passwords to be used or shown during job runtime and logging. As an administrator you can select either Username/Password or Store Key in both backup spec creation and restore workflow.
Enhanced WebRoot malware detection integration
New easy to view malware status for admins.New malware status types make it easier for admins to understand the malware status of a device.
These are the new WebRoot based malware statuses available in Data Protector 24.3
- Not Applicable: For sessions where a malware check is not done, like copy, replication, media, old backup sessions and backup session where a malware check is not offered (non-windows clients).
- Good: For backup sessions where malware was not found.
- Infected: For backup sessions where malware was found before backup and backup was allowed.
- Unknown: For backup sessions where logging is set to „No log“.
