In increasingly complex environments where data proliferation combines with the heterogeneity of applications and the growing prevalence of cyber risks, a robust cyber resilience strategy is imperative.
At OpenText, we believe proper information management connects knowledge with action to drive innovation and growth. However, power without control is ineffective. Along with information management, a strong business continuity strategy is essential.
Throughout 2024, OpenText has introduced enhancements to improve the interoperability, security, and performance of its flagship corporate protection solution, OpenText Data Protector. In October, we released Data Protector 24.4, a long-term support (LTS) version offering three years of support and consolidating new features from previous releases.
With this release, we also launched a “What's New in Data Protector” session to inform users about these updates. This session is now available on demand, covering topics such as:
- Security and reporting enhancements
- Improvements in virtual integrations
- Architectural updates
- Reasons to upgrade to the latest version
Additionally, we have conducted similar sessions in other languages, which are also available on demand:
- Conozca la Nueva Versión OpenText Data Protector 24.4 (Spanish session)
- Was gibt es Neues bei OpenText Data Protector 24.x? (German session)
Looking Back Over 2024
Throughout 2024, the Portfolio Product Group hosted various sessions to provide customers with valuable insights on implementing a comprehensive cyber resilience strategy. These sessions addressed not only data and applications but also endpoint devices and cloud-to-cloud backup solutions:

A Special Seminar in Preparation for the Christmas Season on December 18th
While IT systems might be in freeze mode and families gather to enjoy the warmth of delicious food, gifts, and Christmas carols, all the bad Grinches are busy. They take advantage of this period of limited vigilance to sneak into your systems and steal your data.
In this webinar, we will share last-minute checks, critical preparations, and thought-provoking insights on Cyber Security for your Backup & Recovery environments, including:
- When does a copy qualify as a backup? … What would Santa say?
- How immutable is an immutable file system? … Even Rudolph’s nose might blush this time of year!
- Hardened systems? … How hard can they be if even almonds are sold en masse without their shells?
Remember, your last line of defense should ring the alarm bells loud and clear before disaster strikes!
The Grinch Who Stole Data: Preparing Your Backup & Recovery for the Holiday Freeze – December 18th
Don't leave yet, there's still more to come in 2025
Organizations are not only struggling to manage the demands of massive data volumes but are also striving to meet stringent platform requirements that deliver speed, performance, and flexibility.
Intellectual property, confidential documents, personal data, and other sensitive information must be protected with the right tools to ensure proper recovery.
Business continuity must remain a priority, supported by proven enterprise-grade capabilities that enable the effective protection and recovery of corporate information.
To this end, and building on the foundation of the aforementioned webinars, we are preparing new sessions to keep our user community informed and provide periodic updates on our corporate Backup and Recovery solutions.
Here are some of the topics we are working on and will soon announce as live and on-demand sessions in multiple languages:
- OpenText Data Protector Magellan reporting. With OpenText Data Protector 24.4 we are moving all reporting from the outdated Reporting Server to the modern business intelligence reporting OpenText Magellan BI & Reporting. Magellan reports are available since several releases and in 24.4 we are adding several additional useful reports.
- OpenText CloudAlly solution. Using cloud-based applications doesn’t guarantee the safety of your data. It remains susceptible to loss. SaaS providers like Microsoft, Google, and Salesforce advise using third-party backup solutions to protect your data. With a comprehensive backup and recovery solution for SaaS applications, you can manage everything through a single, intuitive interface.
- OpenText Data Protection solutions: Cyber security and resiliency. Backup and recovery solutions are your last line of defense if information already got lost or corrupted. Getting your important data back with a press of a button makes sure infected data is replaced or missing data is restored.
- OpenText Data Protection solutions for virtual environments. Recent changes in the virtualization market have generated mixed feelings and may have potential repercussions when it comes to discussing virtualization strategies. OpenText Data Protector together with OpenText Data Protector for Cloud Workloads can protect almost any hypervisor on the market.
