PVCS Crashes on check-in Process.

Hello,

I have Installed the version PVCS 8.6.3.0 and I have this only as Desktop client. i.e. no Version Manager File Server has been installed. Post setting up the Project DB and Projects, I am able to perform all the Actions such as get, check-out etc., except check-in.  I am checking-out a module (in administrator mode) to a work file location, make changes and perform a check-in, PVCS crashes. During the check-in processing, it gives me a pop-up message "Java Version Manager GUI Application has stopped working". When I click on the problem details,

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: pvcsvmnt.exe
Application Version: 8.6.3.0
Application Timestamp: 6011ef4c
Fault Module Name: StackHash_1acc
Fault Module Version: 6.3.9600.17415

Exception Offset: PCH_C1_FROM_ntdll+0x00000000000911FA
OS Version: 6.3.9600.2.0.0.16.7
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: 1acc

Additional Information 4: 1e38f6e75c763d43f6d1adcb9fd9e5ad

Post this the application closes. What happens is that in the archives folder there is a file created with the extension *.-sem (at the time of check-in) and until this is delete, I am not able to unlock the file again.

Do note that, this happens only when I make changes to the checked-out file and check it back in. When I simply check-out and perform check-in, with no changes to the module, there are no issues in the system.

Would be glad if help is provided.

    Hello Vishnu,

Apologies for the inconvenience. VM 8.6.3.0 has an issue checking certain types of COBOL files in. Please submit a support case so we can guide you to a patch. If you post the case number here I can guide it along.

    With kind regards,

    - Richard.

    Hello Richard,

We greatly appreciate your prompt response! I've opened a support case for this; the case number is 02161327. The team's response was to delete the semaphores file in order to release the lock, which indicates that the issue was not fully understood/communicated by me. Last week, I contacted the team and am awaiting responses.

It would be incredible if you could direct me in the right direction.

    We appreciate your continued support.

    Thanks again

    Vishnu

    Hi Vishnu,

You are very welcome; I'm glad this helped to resolve the problem.

As a heads up: the VM 8.6.3.2 patch will be released soon, to be available from Software Licenses & Downloads under Version Manager 8.6.3. That patch includes the same COBOL fix as well as some other ones we recommend all VM 8.6.3 users install.

    With kind regards,

    - Richard.
