Event trigger for sending emails on checkins

Hi,

I have found option for event trigger in pvcs desktop client.
However, i do not know how to configure it.
Please help to configure that from desktop client UI options.

You will need an external program to send an email from the command line. Then it gets wrapped in a batch file. Then you point the event trigger to the batch file. I don't have a command-line email program I can suggest since the one I use is actually a Perl script and I'd rather not ask you to install Perl. Find the program first, then we can help you write the batch file and test it.

I am already executing some perl script on that machine.So,Perl is already installed.
So, if you can share script that would be very helpful.
Otherwise, i have to search for that script online.

Also, when email is sent using script on post checkins..then description mentioned while checkin will also available to email content?

Look up chapter 15 in the Administrator's guide for info on what's available for event triggers. If you use a batch file, you won't have to pass the variables in since they should be available as environment variables. It's probably "EventChgDesc" and you should put that in the email body.

Hi Gerard,

I have used the bat file and got values from environment variables.
How should i get version label name when someone apply that. I did not find any environment variable for that.
Also, "EventChgDesc" works to fetch description while checkins. However, it does not understand new line in description.It just copy everything in single line.

Save the description to a text file and then specify the text file as the message body in the email script.

Something like

echo %EventChgDesc%> %TEMP%\body.txt

then use "-o message-file=%TEMP\body.txt"

The temporary file should have a uniquly generated filename in case there's a conflict and you should delete it after you're done sending the email.

I will try this and will let you know if this worked or not.

One more issue i just need to clarify.
When i checkin multiple files together, only last email has all environment variables expanded well.Previous one does not have correct values.

Hi Gerard,

I have figured that out why email was not formed well while checkins multiple ones.
There has to be triple quotes around inputs.
Now its working.
