PPM Work Plan displaying variances in percentage on task slippage

Hi,

Customer is on PPM24.1 and busy wih upgrading to PPM25.1 in OpenText SaaS.

The customer was using MSP (Microsoft Project) with there previous solution and with adopting PPM and using the PPM Work Plan they require a percentage variance in percentage on task slippage.

Our investigation indicate that it's a custom field in MSP but we might be wrong.

Is there a way to add that type of column in PPM Work Plan as a User Data field?

What else would you suggest? (Maybe a Project Overview layout portlet to provide the information)

Sure, you can add it as a Task User Data field, but it will not have any influence on the task itself or the task scheduling or effort computation logic.

If this field is so important to keep as a business requirement, you might as well use your projects in Microsoft Project controlled mode, and sync this MSP custom field to a User Data PPM Task field for reporting if needed.

    Hi Etienne,

    Thanks for your response.

How would you suggest I do the calulated value in that user data field, are there any workplan task tokens to use for a calulated value to display in the user data field because the MSP field is a calulated field.

One of the reasons of not using MSP is Agile integration to the work plan tasks and as you know will not work with MSP when downloading MPP and uploading the MPP file again.

Allowing integration & sync of Agile Tasks in a work plan in MSP Controlled mode or Shared Controlled mode has been working for many years already - as long as you use the MPP file sync and not the MSP Plugin.

Only the linked task info (i.e. the with the agile icon) will be imported back to MPP file (even in MSP controlled mode) though, but that should be enough information to keep managing your work plan in MSP - the agile tasks details belong in the Agile Tool anyway, not in MSP. And PPM will give you the full picture with detailed synched tasks from Agile while still allowing the advantages of managing the rest of the work plan in MS Project.

If you're after a feature of MS Project and that your project managers are hard-core MS Project fans, let them keep using MS Project for their WBS management, there's nothing wrong with that Slight smile  BTW I don't even know what a "percentage variance in percentage on task slippage" means, but something tells me that you won't manage to have any impact on the PPM work plan based on it, even (especially?) as a User Data Task field. Tasks User Data are just here to capture extra information about the task, not to be used to have any impact whatsoever on the task schedule or effort/actuals.
