Query regarding new UI for PPM 25.x

Hi,

We are in PPM 24.2 and plan to upgrade to PPM 25.x. We do see that there are UI chnages. We want to ask whether it is still possible to retain old UI in the upgraded version? The reason for the ask is:

We have our quality team develop automated test scripts. These test scripts check for the UI menus available for team members and project managers. We have it automated using the current UI that is present where navigation is like hover over the menu. The current 25.x is more of clicks and different path it seems.

We had gone through the demo scheduled by RnD few months back about the changes that would happen for UI. Is it possible to retain the old menu format, so that it will ease some of the effort required to modify the automated test scripts?

Thanks,

Kaushik

    Hi Kaushik,

It is possible to switch back to the "old" menu in PPM 24.4 and 25.1 - but if you do so you'll keep the new "Administration" menu that replaces the administration conosle.

However, using the old menu should only be a temporary solution until your teams can adapt their automated testing scripts to the new menu. The possibility to use the old menu will be removed in a future PPM version.

Another very good reason for adopting the new menu is that if you face any issue with it, you can let us know so that we can get it addressed by the time reverting to the old menu will not be an option.

So, in summary, the sooner you switch to the new menu, the better.

As for your comment of "the new menu requires more clicks" it is incorrect. In the old menu, you'll typically have clicks like "OPEN/<module>/action". In the new menu, it will become "Menu button/module/action". So, same number of clicks. Also, it is much easier to customize the new menu - there's a dedicarted UI to add and configure menu entries, and since there's room for more entries with the vertical side layout, you can add more custom menu entries that will be accessible directly after clicking on the menu button.
