Nowadays, we want everything interconnected, faster, and easy. That’s why we now have smart homes, smart cars, and we can control everything from our smartphone; well in the case of PPM we have been doing some improvements in this area. Now, we can sync our Workplan tasks with the Staffing profile, this is one of the newest features released since version 9.6.
The amazing thing about this feature is that you can create the positions in the staffing profile just by synchronizing it with the Workplan. In other words, you will have one position for each task you have in the workplan. To be able to do this you have to activate the option called, Sync Between Tasks and Positions, in the Feature Toggles section of the administration console. Before version 9.6 you have to turn the following parameter in the server.conf, as true SYNC_POSITIONS_FROM_WORKPLAN.
Once you able this option you must make sure that Scheduled Effort is controlled manually or the override of effort calculation mode is allowed, this has to be set in your project type,
Having the previous all set, you can go to your workplan and do the Synchronization with your staffing profile. In my experience, you must have one position in the staffing profile and then this process will work as expected.
In your staffing profile you will find this button , it is to sync it with your workplan, when you hit it you will get the following message,
After you click Yes you will get the positions created as the tasks in your workplan.
Then you can sync the resources you have assigned to the positions in the Staffing Profile with the task in the workplan. You must make sure the resources are at least soft booked, then you can sync them.
You need to go to the workplan, this time, and hit this button , then you will get a message like the following,
After checking and agreed to the condition, you can click the sync button and get the resource assigned to the task in the workplan.
We hope this information can be useful for you and your organization and you can start using this amazing feature.
