Allow users to use the tab key to navigate in the the Add task screen for the Work Plan

Status: New Idea

All throughout PPM you can use the tab key to navigate from field to field. However, in the Add Task screen for the Work Plan, the only way to navigate between fields is using a pointing device.  The tab key does not function at all in this screen.

Enhance the Add Task screen to allow the use of the tab key navigate to the next editable field.

Note; this form is requiring me to pick a Label but I'm unable to see any that are relevant. Only a partial list of Labels is visible.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the info. I can reproduce the issue on both Schedule View & on the new Quick View - which by the way is the preferred view for editing work plan moving forward.

Please note that when using the Quickview you can cycle through the task editable fields from the end by pressing Shift+Tab while the task name is selected - clearly not ideal (nor the expected/intended behavior), but that's the only workaround that I could find while waiting for us to implement proper keyboard tabbing upon task creation/edition.

The reply that you got from R&D is somewhat expected, as they tend to stick to the official definition of Enhancement Requests - but being from R&D too I can confirm that keyboard navigation not working on a PPM screen is considered as an accessibility defect. For information we do have a dedicated backlog in PPM for all accessibility issues, and it's open to all PPM customers upon request if they meet accessibility challenges with the tool. In your case, this may just be about efficiency of data capture while using keyboard to edit a work plan, but we handle this from the perspective of users for which using a keyboard is the only option.

  • Hi, we reported this issue as a defect and when the issue was submitted to R&D they said the tab never worked, so our request was considered an enhancement.  Yesterday one of our users was able to provide a recording of how it used to work in 10.1. I uploaded the video to the case. We are usually accessing this feature from the Schedule View.

  • Hi Michele,

What work plan page are you referring to? The old work plan (such as schedule view) or the new Quick View work plan page? Could you share some screenshots of where you're clicking to add a task, and which subsequent fields you'd expect to be able to iterate through with the Tab Keys?

Note that these kind of issues are actually considered as accessibility defects, not Enhancement Requests - so let's first make sure about the screen we're talking about, and once this is done we'll address this issue with high priroity in a future PPM release.

  • Note, this issue was first noticed by us in version 24.2.
