PPM Data Archiving Questions

Good day,

I have received the following questions from the customer on PPM Data archiving:

  1. Are we archiving data (PoPI or non PoPI data)? If so, can the frequency be reduced (e.g., from 6 months to 3 months or 1 month)? If not, why?
  2. If we have to initiate archiving as a new step of SDLC, at what frequency should data from your applications be moved from production to archiving environment?
  3. Data categorization: Can data be categorized for archiving based on elements like logs, transactional data, customer data, or structured/unstructured? How many data elements does your application maintain?
  4. Ad-hoc access: How often is archived data needed, and what specific data is typically required (e.g., 2-3 times/month, mostly invoice-related)?

I need guidance on answering the customer on these questions. Specifically on the PPM Data in the Data Base. Currently we have a Oracle 12C RAC and upgrading later this year to 19C.

Thank you,

Regards,

    Hi Alfred,

Since you're on-prem, I don't quite see how you expect us to answer these points as 100% of your infrastructure is in your control.

There's no built-in PPM Archiving solution, so you should look for Oracle-based Archiving solutions based on Redo Logs archiving or full DB Dump archiving if your schema is of a reasonable size.

If you need a more fine-grained control of what gets archived and are open to working with third-partry providers, you may want to have a look at the XLI solution from PPMetrics, (note that this is in no way an official endorsement). They've apparently successfully used it recently for Archiving purposes at a long-time PPM customer, so this may be worth looking into if you've got advanced Archiving requirements.
