Converged Security Centre uses AI on CCTV and Social Media for Effective Action

by   in Data Analytics

A June 2018 report on public safety analytics states - “The rise in criminal activities and terrorist attacks has led to the introduction of data analytics in public safety solutions and services, with an objective to make them ultra-efficient.”   Every second counts in threat detection and neutralization.  In the world of security, efficiency means taking the best possible action in the shortest amount of time.

cctv.pngWhile the traditional video surveillance cameras continue to play an important role in a security infrastructure, the amount of video data that can be efficiently and effectively monitored and analyzed far exceeds the scalable range of human resources.  Hence, video analytics has been gaining grounds to augment human operators. However, CCTVs are just one of many critical data sources that must be leveraged to accelerate effective actions.

In the aforementioned report, another relevant finding emerges - “The rise in the social media analytics platforms could be attributed to the rapid adoption of social media analytics solutions among organizations to prevent citizens from emergencies, such as fire, overcrowding, criminal activities, and natural calamities.”  Social media consists of a very diverse set of data – text, audio, video and image – and, as the report indicates, plays an increasingly valuable role in providing real-time intelligence for addressing security and safety concerns.

Security operations must now be able to aggregate data from any relevant sources (e.g. CCTVs, social media, audio sensors, broadcast news, etc.) of different formats, perform real-time data analysis, and provide the optimal workflow for operators to address the threat. Vidsys, a leader in Converged Security Information Management, and Micro Focus a leader in AI (Artificial Intelligence) powered analytics, have partnered up to address just that by centralizing and automating these processes in one fully integrated solution – Intelligent GSOC

  • Hey JoeLeung, interesting read. Security's no joke, and your article nails the urgency of efficient action. The combo of AI and CCTV in the Converged Security Centre is a smart move. Every second counts, and drowning in video data ain't helping anyone.

Your point about social media analytics caught my eye. It's wild how diverse data from social platforms can be a game-changer in real-time threat intel. But here's the rub - dealing with data from CCTVs, social media, and whatnot? That's a mess. Perhaps this article will help to make sense of it: AI in Social Media: Discover the Future of Digital Interaction. I found it quite informative, please share your impressions.

Your solution with Vidsys and Micro Focus sounds like a solid one-stop-shop for sorting this chaos. Centralized, automated processes? Sign me up! Efficiency is the name of the game, after all.

My two cents for you, Joe: keep digging into those real-world examples. How's this convergence actually playing out in the field? Personal experiences can add a layer of insight that stats sometimes miss.
