Artificial Intelligence, or AI is not new in firefighting. AUDREY (Assistant for Understanding Data through Reasoning, Extraction and Synthesis) is an AI app by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). Rolled out in the Fall of 2018, this voice-activated system analyzes the tsunami of data collected during a fire to guide firefighters’ decisions in the battle against the flames.

What about fire prevention? In the aftermath of the recent Notre Dame Cathedral fire, discussions of fire prevention and heritage building protection have been springing up everywhere. IFSEC Global Magazine just published an article - Notre Dame blaze: fire experts on safeguarding heritage sites – which addresses the critical areas on how to mitigate the risks of fire to historical landmarks.

One of these areas is AI powered converged security approach that monitors and analyzes diverse data sources such as CCTVs, alarms, sensors, etc., for intelligence to drive effective alerts. The operations center can review all nearby cameras to the fire alarm and then figure out what to do next with the automated workflows and action plans. The enabling technology comes from the Intelligent GSOC, which is a joint and integrated solution consisting of Micro Focus IDOL (AI for unstructured data analytics) and Vidsys (CSIM – Converged Security Information Management).
