Knowledge Document: IDM - Azure AD Driver Start fails with error Fatal: "The DriverShim is out of sync with the Exchange Service"

This article describes an issue where the Azure AD driver fails to start and shows error "Http response status : HTTP/1.1 401 Initialization failed. The DriverShim is out of sync with the Exchange Service." in trace during Exchange server initialization.

Environment

Identity Manager 4.8.x
Azure AD Driver 

Situation

When the driver is configured to use the Exchange service, and the Short Date format under Date and Time settings for the server where the IDM Exchange service is installed is set to "05-APR-17" format then the driver fails to start, returning error
"Http response status : HTTP/1.1 401 Initialization failed. The DriverShim is out of sync with the Exchange Service."
during ExchServer initialization.
