LDAP:error code 65 - NDS error: Illegal attribute(-608)" error occurred when modifying/deleting attribute

NetIQ eDirectory 9.2.4

Situation
When updating an attribute using LDIF or LDAP, it failed with the following error:
LDAP:error code 65 - NDS error: Illegal attribute(-608)

Cause
This is due to the attribute has not been associated to any objectclass.

Resolution
Please add the attribute to the related objectclass as optional attribute using iManager.

Below are the steps.

1. Login to iManager as admin, go to Roles and Tasks > Schema > Class Information
2. Search for the attribute in "Available optional attributes"
3. Double Click to add the attribute to "Optional attribute(s)"
4. Click Ok to update the objectclass
