Deconfiguring and Uninstalling the SLAPI/Character Substitution Plug-in for eDirectory

This article provides the information on how to edit, deconfigure and uninstall the SLAPI plug-in for eDirectory using the eDirectory service installed on the server.

Problem: Edit the existing configured SLAPI plug-in to include few more attributes, delete it and then uninstall the SLAPI plug-in.

Solution: To edit, delete and uninstall the configured SLAPI plug-in.

Editing/Deleting SLAPI/Character Substitution Plug-in

  1. Launch iManager application.

  • Login to the eDirectory server providing the administrator credentials.

  • Go to Directory Administration -> Modify object -> Browse and select the ldapserver object.

  • Go to Other tab and look for extensioninfo from the Valued Attributes box.

  • Select extensioninfo from Valued Attributes box and click Edit. The Edit Attribute Window displays as below:

  • Expand the extensioninfo drop-down, in the end select the slapi extension(recently configured extensions will be in the end, so in this case, the last extensioninfo having details on the attributes marked for character substitution).

  • To edit the slapi configuration click Edit Item and make the changes.(For example:Inclusion of an attribute 'sn' which needs to be registered for this plug-in or removal of an attribute 'ACL' from this registration) as required. Click Modify to save the changes.

  • Click OK in the Edit Attribute window. Click Apply to apply the changes in the main Modify object window and click OK.

  • Restart the eDirectory server to get these changes reflected.

  • To remove the SLAPI configuration:

    • Go to the Edit Attribute window.
  • Select the extension info(recently configured extensions will be in the end, so in this case, the last extensioninfo having details on the attributes marked for character substitution).
  • Click Remove Item in the Edit Attribute window.
  • Click OK.

    Click Apply and then click OK in the Modify Object Window.

  • Restart the eDirectory server to get these changes reflected.

  • On providing modules command in ndstrace, cs-plugin Not Loaded is displayed.

Uninstalling/Unloading of SLAPI/Character Substitution Module

To uninstall/unload the cs-plugin module, perform the below:

     Remove the libcs-plugin.so from the nds-modules directory on Linux and Unix.

     Remove the cs-plugin.dll from C:\Novell\NDS on Windows.

     Remove the csplugin.nlm from sys:\system on Netware.

Restart the eDirectory server to get these changes reflected.

Upon running ndstrace, cs- plugin will not be listed.

Note: It is possible to edit, deconfigure and uninstall the SLAPI plug-in registration using ConsoleOne as well.
