File Reporter versus Storage Manager

Good day,

Customer is looking at utilizing File Reporter to clean up Groups and Home Drives. I was trying to see if FR works in an eDirectory/OES environment, the customer did a POC many years ago, but had issues with the product being in an NSS Cluster Resource and not being able to work well within that environment. So first question is Open Text File Reporter something that can be installed/configured within the OES2018-SP3/eDirectory environment, and are there any helpful hints or tips that I can use to start getting a better understanding of the product as a whole?

Is Storage Manager more so a Management tool for providing policy's and quotas upon the end-users?

Any assistance would be most helpful.

Thank you,

    dschaldenovell,

File Reporter does work in an OES/eDirectory environment and in hybrid eDirectory/Active Directory environments. There is a bit of a discrepancy in versioning around that, however. The latest version that supports eDirectory is File Reporter 3.6. We're working on continued eDirectory support in forthcoming releases, but for the moment you'll need to use File Reporter 3.6 for this purpose.

Storage Manager is a management tool, yes. File Reporter and Storage Manager can be used in conjunction with each other; File Reporter identifies permissions, ROT (redundant, outdated, & trivial) file system entries, etc., and Storage Manager acts to remediate those issues and keep storage in line with defined policies.
