Error starting the kafka scheduler on the appliance, investigation shows root password has expired. Workaround provided removes expiry attribute from the root account or resetting the root password.

Environment

Arcsight Platform 24.2

OMT version 24.1-20

Recon Appliance 8000 series

Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 9.2 (Plow)


Situation


Attempts to start the kafka scheduler provides output similar to this.

 

[root@r8000 arcsight-db-tools]# ./kafka_scheduler start
SSL/TLS mode is enabled
WARNING: Your password has expired.
Password change required but no TTY available.
Connection closed
WARNING: Your password has expired.
Password change required but no TTY available.
scheduler instance(s) added for r8000a.example.com

The "chage -l root" command indicates that the root account password has expired.
