Possible for an AG cluster to have servers deployed as Appliance and Service?

We have NAM 5.0.4 AG deployed as a cluster of three appliances. We would like to move to deploying them as a service. Is it possible to migrate them one-by-one in the existing cluster in which case there would be a mix of appliance/service deployments or do we need to create a new cluster for the service deployments?

    AFAIK you cannot mix service and appliance in the same cluster. Appliance and service clusters also have different settings.

    For example appliance cluster has IP address management (IP, subnet, DNS, time servers, ...) while service cluster does not (that is managed by OS utilities).
