I would like to deepen my knowledge of Visual Cobol. I use the Personal Edition for this. Is it possible to use the IMTK in the edition? It seems to me that I cannot make the Enterprise Server available for the Personal Edition.

Hi Ottmar,
You should be able to select the Enterprise Server project template and create and deploy a web service using the IMTK with the Visual COBOL Personal Edition. What you won't have is any mainframe compatibility like CICS, BMS, JCL, etc. as these are part of Enterprise Developer.
What makes you think that you cannot use Enterprise Server?

Hi Chris,
thank you very much for your help. I wanted to create an Enterprise Server Application in Visual Studio in order to install a sample application from the Microfocus Samples. After filling out the form, I pressed the Create button and a System.Exception was thrown. Among the options for Microfocus Tools I found the entry "Enterprise Server" with some options that were not available. The entries concluded with the sentence: "These options are not available for this variant of Visual Cobol". Therefore, my guess was that the Enterprise Server is not available for Personal Addition. Or perhaps the Enterprise Server is not installed or activated. Maybe you can help me here. That would be great.
Many Thanks
Ottmar
I just tested this here with a Personal Edition license and I could create an ES project and all the ES options were available.
What product version is this and what type of license did you install? Was it an .mflic file or an .XML file or just a 16 digit auth code?

Hi Chris,
it is Visual COBOL for Visual Studio Personal Edition Named User WebEval SW E-LTU with Version 9.0.0
The License Key is Visual_COBOL_for_Visual_Studio_Personal_Edition.xml.
The Assumptions for IMTK require: "The Enterprise Server feature is enabled for Visual COBOL". What exactly does that mean and how can I check it?
Best Ottmar
Hi Ottmar,
It appears that the newer Autopass license for Personal Edition does not support Enterprise Server. Send me an email at cglazier@opentext.com and I will provide you with a license to support this.

I believe that I'm following the same Tutorial as OP.
I uploaded an Enterprise Server Cloud trial (Enterprise-Server-Core_imsdb.xml) licence through MF License Manager. This enabled me to create a new Enterprise Server application.
However, I quickly encountered the following error:
and then when creating a new Service Interface, the Interface Mapper did not automatically initialise within the IDE. No obvious View > Other Windows listing.
Furthermore, right clicking on the .svi file within Solution Explorer and Open With ... the default is Service Interface Editor
however, Visual Studio gives the error "The file cannot be opened with the selected editor. Please choose another editor".
This is making me think that this is license specific.
I appreciate that this could easily be self induced ? Is there a prescribed path to secure a trial licence for Enterprise Server (which I am assuming would subsequently unlock IMTK ?
Thank-you,
Lee
An Enterprise Server license is a run-time license allowing you to run applications under Enterprise Server but it does not turn on any of the development tools like IMTK within Visual COBOL PE.
The PE license does not support these tools as it is really a product that is available to learn COBOL.
If you wish to do an evaluation of the full product including the IMTK features, then you should get a 30 day evaluation copy of Visual COBOL or Enterprise Developer instead. You can get an evaluation copy by contacting your local Sales office.

Many thanks Chris. Will make a request for full eval.
It is challenging for a newcomer to this domain to understand all of the moving parts. Appreciative of the guidance being offered. Thank-you.
